The Key to Finding a Reputable HVAC Contractor

The Key to Finding a Reputable HVAC ContractorThe search for a great HVAC contractor for your home can seem daunting, but it’s pretty simple once you know what to look for. We understand the need for proper heating, cooling, and other needs, which is why we’ve come up with a few simple questions for you to ask:

Do the Contractors Keep Up with Industry Knowledge?

We’re not talking about basic industry knowledge — they all have that. What you need to check on is how well the company keeps up with changes in technology and techniques.

What Does Their BBB Listing Look Like?

The first thing you can check out about a company on the Better Business Bureau website is their rating. This is a great indication of how they conduct business. But, also pay attention to any customer complaints and how those were handled.

Are They Properly Licensed and Bonded?

The industry is full of rules and regulations that must be followed in order for an HVAC company to remain in operation. Proof of proper licensing and bonding is always available upon request to ensure that you’re working with a reputable organization.

What Do Their Referrals Say About Them?

First and foremost, you want to obtain a random sampling by choosing a letter or two from the alphabet and asking to see referrals where the last name match those letters. Then, reach out to these people and ask about their experiences in terms of time completion, quality, and other service details.

Is Their Contract All-Inclusive?

When the time comes to employ an HVAC contractor for any job on your home, you want to make sure that the contract covers a variety of information. You’ll obviously want a company to provide a cost and timeframe for completion, but you also need to know how they’ll handle problems that may arise.

I like the recommendation to check with the BBB to see if their ratings are good. It makes sense that good ratings from past customers and on the BBB would prove that the company does quality work. I’ll have to remember this when looking to upgrade my AC to ensure it’s done correctly and without any unnecessary mistakes.

You wrote that you should get referrals from the air conditioning professionals, so that you can know what their past clients think of them. With honest reviews, you could know exactly what to expect, and determine if that level of service is up to your standards. I’ll have to keep this in mind, as AC system repairs are not uncommon and I’ll probably need to hire a contractor sooner than later.

I loved the tip you gave about reaching out to past clients of the HVAC company to ask about their experiences and thoughts. I’ve heard, too, that you can check out the 3-star reviews that people have left on Google to get an unbiased and honest opinion. I’ll have to remember this great information so that I can make sure that I choose the best HVAC company possible for my home’s AC.

Reviews can definitely be helpful in determining the right HVAC provider. It’s always good to verify licensing and insurance information as well. Thanks!

Thank you for all this helpful information about choosing a heating contractor! One thing that really stood out to me is that you say to ask to see some referrals. It would be nice to know that there are others that have used their services in the past.

I like that the first question you ask is whether or not the contractor keeps up with industry knowledge. After all, the HVAC industry has been undergoing rapid changes for the past couple of years. You want to make sure that the contractor you choose is knowledgeable enough to offer the latest and most effective HVAC systems for your home or office.

My brother recently moved into an older home. He has noticed a weird smell coming from his furnace, so he’s looking for a professional to evaluate the situation. I didn’t realize how important it is to look at a HVAC company’s rating with the Better Business Bureau to see how they resolve client complaints to ensure you get high quality customer service. I’ll be sure to tell my brother about this consideration.

    • Rebecca Sherlock says

Thank you for passing this information to your brother! It is very important to look at the BBB reviews of companies that you are planning to do business with, but also contacting the company to see if they have any client they could recommend that would give a personal account of the work they have had performed by them.

I like that you mentioned to check the BBB website to make sure the company is in good standing. I want to make sure the company I choose is going to have a good history. We need a new AC unit before the heat of the summer sets in, so I will keep this in mind as I search.
