Best Situations to Use a Ductless, Mini-Split System

June 22, 2023 by hls_admin

When you’re looking for a more efficient way to heat and cool your home, ductless mini-split systems could be a good option to consider. These systems use electricity to run rather than depending on natural gas. However, they don’t work efficiently in all homes. In order to determine if one of these systems is right for your home, keep the following in mind.

Square Footage

Mini-split systems work best in homes or rooms that have 1,000 square feet of space or less. Homes that are larger than this run into the problem of having too much space and too many spread-out rooms to heat or cool efficiently.

Insulation

If you have a smaller home or a certain room that could benefit from having a ductless, mini-split system, consider insulation. In order for this type of system to work as well it should, you’ll need to make sure that your home or room has enough insulation. Homes or rooms with poor insulation cause these systems to run more often than they should, leading to increased energy usage, utility bills and wear and tear.

New Addition

If you already have a forced air system with ductwork or if you live in a larger home, keep in mind that a mini-split system can be installed for a new addition. For example, if you’re adding a room to your home, you can invest in this type of system for that room only instead of having to modify existing ductwork and install vents.

Specific Rooms

If you have a certain room in your home that needs additional heating or cooling, such as a room that doesn’t get enough sun or one that gets a lot of sun, ductless, mini-split systems are a good option. This type of system can provide more heating or cooling to that room as needed.
